Magic: The Gathering Foundations is a new set of cards that's designed to be a starting point for new and experienced players to learn the game. The set includes a variety of features to help players of all levels enjoy the game, including: 
 
Returning mechanics: The set includes well-known mechanics like flashback and raid, which are useful for new players. 
 
Extra reminder text: Cards in the set include reminder text in italics to help explain how mechanics work. 
 
Simplified rules: The set includes some rule changes to make the rules easier to read, such as reducing the use of a card's name in its rules text. 
 
Color pairs: The set distills color pairs into their most recognizable forms, so that players can more easily construct decks that fit a specific strategy. 
 
Signpost uncommons: Each color has a two-color card that plays into its color pair's strategy.
